We checked out from our apartment at 5am in the morning and we took the first Kansai Airport Express Train from Tennoji Station.
We decided to fly to Hokkaido from Osaka instead of taking the train as we wanted to save the time spent on traveling. We flew on Peach Airways, one of Japan’s low cost carrier (LLC).
Peach Airways operates exclusively in Terminal 2 of Kansai International Airport. To get to the terminal from the train station, you will need to board the shuttle bus from Aeroplaza. Shuttle bus schedule can be found here.
If you are flying without any check-in baggage, I will recommend that you print your flight itinerary and bring it along with you to the airport. Self-check in kiosks can be used instead of queuing up at the counter saving you a lot of time. Using the kiosks is as simple as scanning the barcode on your itinerary and confirming the passengers that you are checking in for. The boarding pass will then be printed. The downside to using the self check-in kiosks is the lack of options for you to choose your seats. If you have not pre-booked them, the airline does not guarantee that you will be seated next to your friend of the same flight booking. And this happened to us.
As this was a domestic flight, immigration clearance was not needed. However, the queue for security clearance was very long due to the high number of flights scheduled in the morning.
Our flight from Kansai to New Chitose costs us ¥5,630 per pax. Our flight onboard Airbus A320 was furnished with leather seats, and the seats have narrower leg room than what Scoot has on their 787.
The flight experience is what one would expect from a LLC. No in-flight entertainment, and on-board meals would have to be purchased. The pricing for the on-board meals was however cheaper than what Scoot is offering.
