From Shin-Kobe station, we took the subway to Sannomiya Station. Though this was not covered by the JR-Pass, it was the fastest way to get to Sannomiya Station.
Sannomiya Station is where most of the eateries in Kobe are. It is busier and functions more as the town centre of Kobe, rather than Kobe Station itself.

We decided to try Kobe Beef at Steakland, a teppanyaki chain serving Kobe Beef at a very reasonable price. There are a few Steakland outlets located around Sannomiya Station, and the nearest one is just next to it. When we arrived at Steakland, there wasn’t much of a queue and we were able to get seats on the second floor when we arrived.

The dining area was divided into a few tables with their own teppanyaki cooking station. There were six of us at our table and we had a chef that prepared the whole meal in front of us.

We ordered the Special Kobe Sirloin Steak Dinner (¥7,980) & Special Kobe Tender-loin Steak Dinner (¥9,480).

The main difference between the set that we ordered and the normal dinner menu is an appetiser which consisted of smoked salmon, a salad side and the seafood that came with the mains. The normal dinner menu only had a salad side.

We waited in excitement as we were saving up our food funds so that we were able to afford this Kobe Beef meal and we were honesty looking forward to trying the much fabled Kobe Beef.

Though it was certainly an experience eating Kobe beef within Kobe itself, Steakland is not really somewhere where you can expect to find top-quality Kobe Beef. While the price is certainly one of the more affordable ones that you can find, we didn’t find ourselves blown away. We did however managed our expectations after reading varied reviews of Steakland online.

The service however was better than what most reviewers rated. Other then the staff mistaking us for locals and passing us the Japanese menu (of which the staff apologised before handing us an English copy), the service was quite prompt. Although when the crowd started coming in, the staff crew was a little overwhelmed trying to serve everyone. We didn’t have to wait long before a chef served us.

Overall, if you are looking for a place that serves decent Kobe Beef at reasonable pricing, I would recommend Steakland. However, if you do have a bit more cash to spare and you really want to try the real deal, you should find other establishments in Kobe.
