Otaru
小樽市

Hokkaido, Japan

Otaru is a port city located 30 minutes north from Sapporo. The JR Rapid Airport line will bring you straight to Otaru from the airport. We deposited our bag at the coin lockers at the station before and we headed to Senkaku Fish Market (三角市場).

The place to be if you are looking for fresh seafood. Senkaku Fish Market is one of the more memorable markets. I found that the prices here are more reasonable compared to the other markets that I visited in Japan. King crabs are one of their many specialities.

Huge water tanks with fresh king crabs are found outside the stalls and you can pick them up and have the store owners cook it for you on the spot.

We stopped by at Takeda Sengyoten for lunch.

After lunch, we walked towards the Otaru Canal. The canal is actually quite far from the station itself.

We bought a slice of honeydew and it was not as sweet as the one we had at Kinosaki Onsen.

Toilet is a rare commodity around the town. We finally found one inside a souvenir shop.

Venetian Cafeteria

Venetian Cafeteria

5-27 Sakaimachi, Otaru 047-0027, Hokkaido

Located outside the Museum of Venetian Art, we found the 7-layered rainbow ice-cream! Featuring 7 different flavours (grape, strawberry, melon, matcha, milk, lavender & chocolate), this soft-serve ice-cream was one of the best that I have had.

I was not able to find this 7 layer ice-cream in any other place in Japan. So it is a must try if you are in Otaru.
