Lake Toya

Shikotsu-Toya National Park
Iburi Subprefecture, Hokkaido, Japan

We checked out of Social365 Hostel and got onto a train to Lake Toya. To get to Lake Toya, alight at Toya Station (JR-Muroran if you are using HyperDia) and hop onto a bus.

You can either choose to purchase return tickets from the JR-Ticketing counter or choose to pay for single-trip journey on the bus itself. It was very hard to find any bus information online but to our surprise, the bus frequency is not that bad. The 18 minutes bus journey will bring you up along the mountain ridges. Lake Toya is a huge caldera lake that is 10km in length. We alighted at Toyako Onsen Bus Terminal.

The lake is located at quite a high altitude, so the winds can get very chilly.

We returned to Toyako Onsen Bus Terminal to take the bus back to Toya Station.
