Red leaves on trees and snow caps on top of mountains greeted us as the plane started its descend. We landed at New Chitose Airport after a two hour flight.
The New Chitose Airport serves mainly domestic passengers and that is evident from the size of the larger domestic building compared to their international building. Touted as one of the must-sees in Hokkaido, the airport has a lot of facilities and stores to keep you occupied. Stores include Royce Chocolate World and a Doraemon-themed Skypark.
We headed to the 3rd floor of the domestic terminal to grab breakfast at the food court. The food court boasts a panoramic view of the runway, a perfect spot for plane spotters. Not all the stalls were open when we arrived.
The way Hanamaru Udon operates is very similar to Tamoya Udon back in Singapore. You will have to choose how you want your udon to be prepared and it is served plain. The store has a wide variety of tempura side dishes that you can pick up from the counter before payment.
The udon had the right texture to it and the soup stock was very refreshing. The tempura though was too cold for my liking and did not taste fresh. We ordered curry rice as well and it was great for a place that serves mainly udon.
Water fountains can be found scattered around the food court. Customers are also expected to return their own trays to the respective stalls after their meals and clothes to wipe the table are provided.
