Flying out from Singapore Changi Airport, we took a Tiger Taiwan flight and landed at Taoyuan International Airport (Terminal 1) at around 8:30pm.

The nice cool winds that blowed on our winds upon landing was certainly a nice welcome from the hot and humid weather back in Singapore.

After clearing immigration, we had went ahead to settle some admin stuffs at the airport.

Prepaid Sim Cards

After clearing the immigration gates and out into the public area, take a right turn and you will see a row of counters selling pre-paid sim cards from major mobile networks in Taiwan. All of the counters have their rates clearly displayed and you can do your own comparison before deciding on which network to settle with. The rates for all 3 networks were the same rates, though at the point of our visit, only Taiwan Mobile (Taiwan Da Ge Da) was offering 4G LTE Plans alongside the 3G ones. We went ahead with ChungHwa Telecom and the experience of trying to get it setup was a rather frustrating one. As we were rushing to get to Taichung, we didn’t manage to setup our phones at the counter. The staff mentioned to us that the sim cards were all pre-activated and we just had to put them into our handphones for it to work. Well, it didn’t. It simply refused to connect to the internet despite following the very limited instructions and even checking if the APN was correct. We thought that maybe it will take a while for the internet to be activated (as mentioned in the instruction sheet), but it didn’t. We had to eventually activate manually by sending a message as written on the instruction sheet.
