Omotesando Koffee is a speciality coffee shop tucked away in the backstreets of Omotesando. Operating since 2011, Omotesando Coffee was initially intended to be an one year pop-up store operating out of the courtyard of a traditional Japanese house.
It was the first time that I saw iced mochaccino being prepared correctly. Usually for iced cappuccino, cold milk is poured into a shot of espresso making it more like an iced latte. Here, air was incorporated into the iced drink using the blender to create the familiar foamy milk found in a hot cappuccino.
Personally, Omotesando Koffee is the epitome of Mono no aware (the pathos of things). The minimalist setting of the whole place, the counter in the middle of a small traditional Japanese room, the aroma of the coffee beans drifting in the air all come together to create this immersive experience.
