Kushikatsu is one of the local delicacy of Osaka and you can find quite a number of joints selling this. It is basically pieces of food on skewers that is battered and deep fried.

We settled on Daruma and we didn’t had to wait for our seats. English menu is available upon request.

We ordered one of the sets to share as we just wanted to try and we weren’t very hungry. There were meat items like pork, chicken, fish & beef, and other items such as sweet potato.

There is a common dipping sauce that is provided at each table and you are only allowed to dip your skewer once into the sauce before you consume it. If you require more sauce, you can use the cabbage that is provided to scoop more sauce for your skewer.

While the oil used to deep fry the skewers didn’t reek of the “old oil” taste, I think I personally preferred Yakitori as Kushikatsu can be quite oily and after having a few pieces, oil is all you think about. The food however, makes for a very good pairing with sake & beer, though I wouldn’t really recommend to have it as a meal by itself.
